Old design
This login page for the internal portal is used by millions of TCS associates all across the globe and is the hub of all general administrations like timesheet, salary, HR management etc

WHY THE AUTHCODE?
"Updating my password every 2 weeks is a complete hassle"
32 out of 40 users that we interviewed, agreed to this statement
As a part of the company's security policy, every employee receives a notification to update their password every two weeks. This adds mental load for the employees to think of a new password every week that has not been used before.
Additionally, increasing load on the IT team as well to send constant reminders or receive constant requests of being locked out of their portal due to wrong entries.

Introducing authcode with our own Ultimatix Authenticator App
A one time generated 6 digit code
The best part? No more remembering 100 passwords
But what about challenges ? We asked our users again, this time introducing the authenticator app.

Observational User Testing
Aim : To understand user's preference of the authenticator app over passwords every time they login
Task: Login to Ultimatix

Challenges introducing authcode
Install a new application on your personal device
Access your device and open the phone each time you login
Cannot copy paste the code from a mobile device to the web portal
NEXT STEP?
Due to the constraints of time and the urgency of replacing password logins to prevent the large number of calls our IT department received, we decided to progress with the Authcode development and merge it with our current system, further improving the visual language of our page.
Challenges with UI
- Lacks energy and excitement for an employees for whom it's a portal to be accessed everyday
- Doesn't align with the Company's main page visual layout
- Poor use of the page's real estate
- Need to introduce the authcode login method
After multiple iterations...
"Illustration looks great"
Customized vector illustrations, that match with the brand language and palette of the company's brand
"Authcode option looks more visible"
Using the power of color hierarchy to emphasize the authcode option over the password button eventually completely removing the password option once employees get a hang of authcode

WHAT WE ACHIEVED
Performance metrics
Increase in Authenticator app downloads within a month
80%
Reduction in the number of IT complains received by the team

TAKEAWAYS
Collaboration is always fun
A large scale collaboration with various teams involved in the product lifecycle, helps you learn so much in order to make it efficient as well as understanding different expertise and mindsets
Dashboards can look visually appealing too
Dashboards are one of the most challenging designs, to maintain clear layout with the large amount of data it provides. Thus, strategizing data visualization really helps in creating a easy accessible dashboard
Confidence is the key
Being a designer, you always have to convince and convey the needs of a design process and the reasoning behind it. And years of study and experience, helps you confidently justify the elements of design and the ability for it to create a good user experience,
